What exactly is the millennial kingdom? Above all, the answer to Jesus’ prayer, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
The kingdom of God will be established finally and visibly at the return of Jesus Christ. Yes, it will be revealed what has been prepared in the hearts of believers over thousands of years. The Lord Jesus said, “The kingdom of God is within you.” It was never His aim, however, for it to remain in our hearts, but that it would be revealed, “When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory” (Colossians 3:4).
Our redemption from the power of Satan was determined before the foundation of the world in the heart of God. He revealed this redemption in the death and the resurrection of His Son. His kingdom will also be revealed. We read of the aim of the kingdom of Jesus Christ, “For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all” (1 Corinthians 15:27-28).
The millennium, thus, is the realization of the complete restoration of the kingdom of God. From the Holy Scriptures we see that the eternal God Himself is always the goal, and that this should also be the case in our lives, “That we should be to the praise of his glory” (Ephesians 1:12).
